The overarching concept of Social Studies involves understanding society, its institutions, its resources, the people in it and their behavior.
The curriculum gives an understanding of each of these in a way that enables students to find examples of them in reality and learn from them.
For the most part, the reading material is qualitative, which is a welcome shift from crunching numbers.
Projects, practice exercises and activities in this course are geared towards connecting students with the world around them in a deeper way. Realizing the roots of why society exists and how it behaves creates a wow-effect within students; it encourages them to explore further. History of the world and some nations is another intriguing element of this course.
